Risk guarantees for geothermal facilities
Basic principles
Swissgrid has been appointed by the Federal Government as the primary contact for risk guarantees for geothermal plants.
Your requests for guarantees concerning risk insurance for geothermal plants must be submitted to the national grid company Swissgrid. Please use the official application form for this purpose.
Swissgrid shall pay the guarantee if the drilling and testing works have been assessed as a partial success or a failure by a committee of experts (in accordance with Article 17a (2) and Appendix 1.6 of the Energy Ordinance).
Procedure
After receipt by Swissgrid, the guarantees concerning risk insurance for geothermal plants are reported to the Swiss Federal Office for Energy, which appoints a committee of experts to evaluate the project. The guarantees are granted if the following conditions are fulfilled:
- The complete request was submitted to Swissgrid.
- The minimum requirements were fulfilled in accordance with Appendix 1.6 of the Energy Ordinance.
- The committee of experts has delivered a recommendation concerning the granting of the request to Swissgrid.
- The project can be accommodated in the maximum number of surcharges in accordance with Art. 7a (4) of the Energy Act.
