For decades, Swissgrid and Switzerland have played a key role in the European electricity market.

France, Germany and Switzerland interconnected their high-voltage grids more than 50 years ago, leading to the creation of the Star of Laufenburg. Since then, Switzerland has played a pivotal role in the European electricity network. Swissgrid is actively involved in the future of this electricity network – as a way of ensuring security of supply in Switzerland and neighbouring countries in Europe.
