The introduction of the revised Energy Ordinance meant the introduction in 2006 of a labelling obligation for electricity in Switzerland. All companies that deliver electricity to end customers in Switzerland are subject to this obligation.
As part of this electricity labelling obligation, Swissgrid provides the national Guarantees of Origin system to ensure the flow of information from plant operators to end users, making it considerably easier for electricity suppliers to fulfil their statutory obligations.
Plants covered by additional cost financing (MKF) and cost-covering remuneration for feed-in to the electricity grid (CRF) are also processed via the Guarantees of Origin system. The guarantees of origin for CRF plants are blocked in a frozen account because the renewable added value is reimbursed in full by the CRF.
