Duty to register and electricity labelling

From 2013, all plants with an output of more than 30 kVA, including conventional generation and nuclear power plants, must be registered in the guarantees of origin system.1

In order to register all assets in the GO system within the period prescribed, the required documents have to be sent to Swissgrid not later than 31 October 2012. A registration before 1st January 2013 cannot be guaranteed if the documents are delayed. As a consequence of this, the distribution of GO will be deferred.

The aim of electricity labelling is to inform end users of:

  • the composition (proportions of individual sources) and
  • the origin (domestic or foreign production) of their electricity.

The Swiss GO is the main basis for assignment to an energy source category in the labelling of electricity, followed by an internationally recognised GO (EECS certificate) and then the contract.

More information on electricity labelling can be found in the Federal Government's guidelines on electricity labelling.
