Swissgrid creates new «Technology» business unit

Swissgrid is creating a new «Technology» business unit, effective 1 February 2016. This is designed to expedite the digitalisation of business processes and the resulting transformation of the company. Rainer Mühlberger, previously responsible for «Strategy & Development» on the Executive Board, will head the new business unit.

Swissgrid considers digitalisation to be the prerequisite for enabling the ever more complex electricity system to be operated successfully in the future while ensuring to increase efficiency  at the same time. In order to unlock the full potential, the Information and Communication Technology unit and the Project and Process Management unit will be merged to form the new «Technology» unit, which is positioned on the Executive Board level. Yves Zumwald, interim CEO of Swissgrid: «I’m excited that Rainer Mühlberger has agreed to take on this new role. Due to of his long term experience in project and process management and in IT, he is a perfect fit, and together with his new team, he will create the prerequisites for a successful implementation of our transformation.» Rainer Mühlberger (57) has worked for Swissgrid since December 2011. The graduate mechanical engineer has spent the majority of his career in leadership positions in the telecommunications industry, including as Head of Strategy & Business Development and Head of IT at Swisscom Fixnet AG, as well as CEO of Swisscom Directories AG.
