Project overview

The Swiss electricity grid is secure and reliable. Continual modernisation and maintenance is required to ensure that this remains the case in the future – especially as a large part of the transmission grid dates back to the second half of the last century.

Modernisation and maintenance of the grid are even more important today because a great deal of electricity is being produced and congestion is growing. This means sufficient volumes of the energy produced cannot be transported to the consumption centres.

This congestion must be removed, which is why Swissgrid is optimising specific grid sections and reinforcing or replacing lines.
