The Board of Directors has appointed Daniel Brand (52) as Head of Business Unit Grid Infrastructure with effect from 1 July 2026. He will succeed Adrian Häsler, who has decided to leave Swissgrid.
Daniel Brand has been Head of Grid Operations and a member of the Executive Board at BKW Power Grid since 2018. He is responsible for the strategic direction, implementation and control of all activities relating to the expansion, operation and maintenance of BKW’s distribution grid. He also oversees the operational management of the high-voltage installations services business. Daniel Brand was previously in charge of the central control centre at BKW Power Grid. Before joining BKW, he worked for ABB Turbo Systems AG.
Daniel Brand holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering from ETH Zurich and an EMBA from the University of St. Gallen. He has broad management experience as well as a strong track record in strategy development and its pragmatic implementation at operational level.
As Head of Business Unit Grid Infrastructure at Swissgrid, Daniel Brand will be responsible for the grid infrastructure, in particular its maintenance and modernisation. The transmission grid is the backbone of a secure supply of electricity in Switzerland. To ensure that it meets future requirements, Swissgrid has updated its long-term grid planning in the Strategic Grid 2040 project.
Yves Zumwald, CEO of Swissgrid, is looking forward to working with him: «Thanks to the appointment of Daniel Brand, Swissgrid is gaining an experienced leader with proven expertise in the area of grid infrastructure and operations. His strong implementation skills will enable him to make a decisive contribution to the continued success of the Strategic Grid and therefore to help guarantee a reliable and economical supply of electricity for Switzerland.»
