The planned hydropower reserve is a comprehensible, necessary and feasible measure to increase security of supply. Swissgrid is contributing to the consultation process with additional proposals for optimisation.

Swissgrid is planning an extra-high-voltage line between Flumenthal (canton of Solothurn) and Froloo (municipality of Therwil, canton of Basel-Country). In the long term, this new line will strengthen the security of supply in the greater Basel area and therefore across Switzerland. Swissgrid has worked out three possible variants for the line routing and technology.

On 24 May 2022, Swissgrid Ltd again successfully placed a bond on the capital market. The volume amounts to CHF 175 million.

The Nant de Drance power plant is definitively connected to the extra-high-voltage grid.

The voltage increase on the line between Bickigen (BE) and Chippis (VS) has been delayed due to appeals lodged with the Federal Administrative Court. Swissgrid is planning to modernise the extra-high-voltage line for future operation at a voltage of 380 kilovolts. This increase is important in order to eliminate a bottleneck in the Swiss transmission grid and to increase security of supply in the Valais and Central Switzerland.

A household with an annual consumption of 4,500 kWh will pay an average of CHF 70 for Swissgrid’s services in 2023. This amounts to around 8 percent of its annual electricity costs.
