In association with seven European transmission system operators, Swissgrid is launching the second open call of the Grid Innovation Alliance (formerly the TSO Innovation Alliance). Under the title «The Grid at its Limit», the Alliance is looking for innovative technologies and solutions to reduce grid congestion and tap into additional capacity within the existing grid.

Swissgrid’s shareholders approved all the proposals put forward by the Board of Directors at today’s General Assembly.

Swissgrid fulfilled its key responsibility with 100% grid availability in 2025. This meant that Swissgrid’s grid was available at all times, in an environment in which the stable operation of the transmission grid is becoming increasingly difficult.

Swissgrid uses the tariffs for the transmission system not only to ensure secure operation, but also to finance the modernisation and expansion of the extra-high-voltage grid. This allows Swissgrid to make an important contribution to safeguarding the supply of electricity in Switzerland.

The court annulled a decision made by the European Commission that prevented Swissgrid from participating in the European control energy platforms.

Swissgrid is pursuing the reform of the Swiss control energy market initiated in 2022. The transformation of the energy system has changed the energy mix in Switzerland and poses challenges for the operation of the transmission grid.

The Board of Directors has appointed Daniel Brand (52) as Head of Business Unit Grid Infrastructure with effect from 1 July 2026. He will succeed Adrian Häsler, who has decided to leave Swissgrid.

The electricity agreement is essential for the secure and efficient operation of the transmission grid and for Switzerland’s supply of electricity. This means that cooperation with the EU enshrined in international law is necessary, especially as the Swiss electricity grid is integrated into the European grid with 41 international interconnection lines. Moreover, the status quo cannot be maintained without an electricity agreement.
